Proposed Burns

Dataset Number1165
Dataset TitleProposed Burns
CustodianData Authority: Department for Environment and Water
Joint Custodian: Department for Environment and Water
Data Provider: Department for Environment and Water

Description

DescriptionThe dataset provides mapping of proposed burns conducted by DEWNR. It also contains some Forestry and SA Water prescribed burns. The proposed burn boundary polygons is the Assessment Area (AA) that is the area used for the environmental assessment for a prescribed burn. Any vegetation within this boundary can potentially be burnt. The Planned Objective Area (POA) is an area that is planned to be burnt and the Treated Area (TA) is a percentage of the POA. With some proposed burns these areas may be the same where the AA is bounded by fire tracks and the TA will be 100% of the POA. This dataset supports applications used to manage fire management activities. Refer to Fire History for actual area burnt by completed prescribed burns.
UsageCan be used for 1. Operational fire planning - to identify area for detailed prescribed burning operations plan. 2. Fire Planning - to show areas where prescribed burns are planned across a region or the state.

Data Quality

LineageProposed Burns spatial data has been captured using varying capture techniques and can be captured through digitising from existing features such as park boundaries, roads and tracks, water courses, firehistory, ecological communities and aerial imagery. The proposed burn polygon which represents the assessment area will often abut fire tracks and park boundaries. In the larger remote parks, the proposed burn polygons may not be bounded by these features.
Completeness*PROPOSED BURNS DATA ARE INCOMPLETE AND HAVE VARIABLE COMPLETENESS ACROSS THE STATE* 100% complete for the current prescribed burning season.
Positional AccuracyFeatures are captured with respect to existing spatial data e.g., roads and tracks, reserve boundaries, DCDB, ecological communities and existing fire history etc.
