Description
Description | The Hundreds layer is a data set that reflects the official boundaries of Hundreds in South Australia as defined by the Crown Land Management Act, 2009 or preceeding Acts. Used in conjunction with cadastral boundaries to assist in the definition of land parcels. Early land parcels were defined using a Section and Hundred to uniquely identify a parcel.
The polygons are based on the existing cadastral, topographic or road centerline data that defines the underlying features that boundaries follow. A Hundred refers to a unit of land within South Australia. The first Hundreds were proclaimed in 1846. Each Hundred was named. The land was further subdivided INTO smaller parcels for land ownership and occupation purposes. In the main these are generally known as Sections. Sections were generally uniquely numbered within each Hundred. The early County and Hundred boundaries tended to follow creeks and watersheds but on level country the dominant pattern, begun by Colonel Light on the Adelaide Plains, was a grid running north-south and east-west with diagonal roads linking the towns. There are 535 Hundreds captured within the Hundreds datasetSELECT 1 FROM DUAL;
each identified by a unique name and numerical code.
