Description Description This dataset indicates areas of native vegetation which contain known biodiversity values listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999 and/or National Parks and Wildlife (NPW) Act 1972, as well as those which may contain EPBC Act and/or NPW Act values (i.e. no records exist, but may require further field validation). Biodiversity values include both species (i.e. flora and fauna) as well as communities. It is intended as an interim dataset and will ultimately be replaced by more comprehensive biodiversity values mapping (in development). Usage This dataset was developed to support land use planning decisions in relation to biodiversity legislation. It is for informational purposes only, and does not constitute a legal interpretation under relevant legislation. All matters require approvals under relevant legislation, including the EPBC Act, NPW Act and Native Vegetation Act.

Data Quality Lineage Native vegetation is extracted from relevant classes in the SA land cover (2015-2020) dataset, and then intersected with soil land systems (in the agricultural zone) or IBRA associations and waterbodies (in the outback and pastoral zone) to split any vegetation patches along these borders and prevent large continuous patches of vegetation. Each patch is then assessed to determine whether they contain any known EPBC Act and/or NPW Act listed flora or fauna, or EPBC Act listed communities. Flora and fauna are based on records from the Biological Databases of South Australia (BDBSA), including third party datasets (which have been filtered to remove records that have a low spatial reliability and that were observed prior to 1 January 2000) as well as any available species distribution modelling. Communities are based on mapping by the federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Completeness This dataset is complete across the state with varying datasets informing the agricultural zone of South Australia (based on the extent of the soil land systems dataset) and the outback and pastoral zone (based on IBRA associations and waterbodies). Positional Accuracy The native vegetation boundaries are based on the SA land cover dataset which has a 25m resolution. Only flora and fauna records with a spatial reliability of <500m were included in the analysis, and the maximum spatial reliability distance was used when assessing their presence within a patch of vegetation. Positional accuracy of other boundaries (e.g. soil land systems, IBRA associations, waterbodies) is based on these source datasets.
