Dataset Type Spatial
Description The State Maintained Roads dataset is derived from the TopoRoad dataset that is jointly maintained by DEW & DIT. The Common Road Referencing System (CRRS) assigns a unique number to all roads of interest to Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) (currently or previously maintained) and defines the start, direction and end of the road for linear referencing (i.e. driven distance) purposes. The system defines reference points with known linear distances (known as road running distance). DIT asset information is recorded in databases referenced using CRRS standards. This data set is for the Roads Maintained by the State or Federal Government.
Dataset Use Used as a spatial reference to the location of roads and attributes which DPTI maintains.

Data Quality

Lineage The dataset has been compiled from the road centreline data.
Completeness 100%
Positional Accuracy Accuracy of road alignments varies throughout the coverage depending on method of capture. In general, roads captured through DCDB processes in urban areas are generally within +/- 5 metres of their true position. In rural areas the accuracy is generally within +/- 25metres. In pastoral regions sourced from Geoscience Australia the accuracy is of the order of +/- 125 metres. A program Condition data collection surveys including GPS alignments are used to improve road alignments.

Field Description

TableNameField AliasData Type% Complete% AccuracyDescription
Attribute TableCRRS_ROAD_NO text100100Unique identifier as defined by DPTI, for roads which DPTI are responsible for maintaining or may have in the past, as well roads which may be of interest to DPTI. NB Roads which have been assigned a road number may have no attribute information recorded in the CRRS.
Attribute TableSTART_RRD Double100100Driven length (road running distance) in kilometres from the start of the road to the start location of the feature or section of road. All roads have a designated start, end and direction in CRRS. If both Start and End Road Running Distance equal zero no Information exists in CRRS.
Attribute TableEND_RRD Double100100Driven length (road running distance) in kilometres from the start of the road to the end location of the feature or section of road. All roads have a designated start, end and direction in CRRS. If both Start and End Road Running Distance equal zero no Information exists in CRRS.
Attribute TableRDNAME text100100Concatenated road name and abbreviated type. Where the TOPO Roads name is null, the name associated with the road number in the CRRS is used.
Attribute TableSIDE text100100Carriageway/Side for the designated section of road. All CRRS roads have a defined direction and the side is defined with reference to the increasing road running distance, not driving direction of the road.
Attribute TableROAD_CATEGORY_CODE text100100Road funding classification
Attribute TableAUSTROADS_CLASS_CODE text100100AUSTROADS functional road classification, designating the primary role of the road.
Attribute TableSPEED_LIMIT short integer9999Legal Speed limit along the designated section of road. Speed Limits are captured from the Approval documentation and may not coincide with the posted speed limit signage.
Attribute TableSEALED text9090Indication whether the road is sealed or unselaed. Blank indicates no information in relevant databases.
Attribute TableROAD_CLASS text9090Road Classification stereo type defining DPTI road usage.
