| Description | The Postcode layer is a derived data set from the Suburb layer, using the postcode number field within the Suburb layer data to merge the suburb polygons INTO the relevant postcode polygons.
Postcodes is a digital dataset depicting the postcode boundaries within the state. This dataset is one of many themes that comprise the Digital Cadastral Data Base (DCDB). Postcode numbers are issued and maintained by Australia Post. Postcode boundaries are derived from DCDB Suburb and Rural Locality boundaries. Australia Post accepts the Suburb and Rural Locality boundaries as the defining polygons for all postcodes within South Australia. Postcodes are captured only where defined Suburbs or Rural Localities currently exist. |

Data Quality
| Lineage | The source data for the Postcodes theme was obtained from Australia Post and the DCDB. Postcode boundaries are established by the amalgmation of the relevant polygons in the Suburb and Locality data using the postcode number in that data sset ad assigned by Australia Post. |
| Completeness | Spatial and attribute data is 100% complete for all defined Suburbs or Rural Localities and complies with government classification standards. The boundaries are modified, if necessary, with reference to the Cadastre and Suburbs themes. |
| Positional Accuracy | The positional accuracy of the Postcodes theme is dependent upon the accuracy of the suburbs / locality data, which is in turn relyant on the underlying cadastre, road centreline and topgraphic data. |
