Description	Describes the location and characteristics of all aquaculture leases and licences issued under the Aquaculture Act 2001. This includes applications, active and lapsed leases and licences. A lease grants the exclusive use of an area of water for the purpose of marine aquaculture, while a licence subsequently describes the activities that can be undertaken at that lease site e.g. species, feeding regimes and farming structures. All new applications for leases and licences are assessed through an extensive consultation process. These data can be viewed and interrogated at the official Aquaculture Public Register accessible here http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/aquaculture/aquaculture_public_register

Maintenance Method	Licensing staff of PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture provide lease/licence application information as received from applicants to PIRSA Spatial Information Services. Coordinate data are managed and maintained using enterprise GIS software. Coordinate data for marine based leases/licences are generally provided as plans prepared by licensed surveyors. Land based licences generally encompass one or more valuation geometries sourced directly from the State's property valuation system. Attribution is managed within PIIMS (the agency's Primary Industries Information Management System).
