South Australian Marine Parks Network

Dataset Number989
Dataset TitleSouth Australian Marine Parks Network
CustodianData Authority: Department for Environment and Water
Data Provider: Department for Environment and Water

Description

DescriptionThis dataset identifies the land and waters within the SA Marine Parks Network Zoning which is dedicated to conservation under the Marine Parks Act 2007. The South Australian Marine Parks were established to protect the biological diversity of South Australian coastal waters and provide for ecologically sustainable use of the States natural resources. The Government of South Australia is committed to the development of a South Australian Representative System of Marine Protected Areas (SARSMPA). Internal zoning includes Restricted Access Zones (RAZ), Sanctuary Zones (SZ), Habitat Protection Zones (HPZ), and General Managed Use Zones (GMUZ), which will be proclaimed in late 2012.
UsageDefines the zoning of the South Australian Marine Parks Network.

Data Quality

LineageLine work was digitised on screen at various scales and integrated from the following data sources: South Australian (SA) coastline (median high water), Australian Maritime boundaries, Cadastral (DCDB), NPWSA reserves boundaries and point coordinates digitised on screen using ArcMap in GDA 94 geographicals. The SA coastline (median high water) and Cadastral (DCDB) was used to capture the landward component of the marine park boundaries. The seaward boundaries were designed to follow North-South and East-West orientation and the State Water Limit. Some marine park boundaries follow the State Water Limit or NPWSA boundaries. The boundaries were developed in conjunction with the Scientific Working Group (SWG) and adhering to the Design Principles outlined in the Marine Park Technical Report.
CompletenessComplete.
Positional AccuracyThe positional accuracy of the South Australian Marine Parks Network (Boundaries) is related to the positional accuracy of the following data sources South Australian (SA) coastline (median high water), Australian Maritime boundaries, Cadastral (DCDB) and NPWSA boundaries. The positional accuracy for data captured from the DCDB and NPWSA layers is dependent on the map scale from which the parcels were originally captured. Data captured from the SA coastline positional accuracy is quoted as +/- 25 metres and the positional accuracy for the Australian Maritime boundaries is quoted as +/- 150 metres. The South Australian Marine Parks Network (Boundaries) will be further verified in 2009.
